The Prime Minister of India is stepping down in favour of a new cabinet to take over the reins of the nation after more than seven years in power.
In his letter, Mr Modi says he has decided to seek a new mandate for his government to ensure the country is heading in the right direction.
“I will resign from my position of prime minister.
This is my last day as Prime Minister and I thank all the people for the love and support,” he said in his letter.
The new government will be led by an interim Prime Minister.
It will also include an incoming Cabinet led by a new Chief Minister, Mr Kumar.
